Rescue Operation Success: Four Men Freed from Flooded Cave in Laos
Four of the seven villagers trapped in a flooded cave in Laos have been rescued after ten days, with efforts still underway to locate the remaining two missing men.
Four men trapped for ten days in a flooded cave in Laos have been successfully rescued, according to Thai rescuers. The villagers had entered the cave system in central Xaysomboun province in search of gold but became stranded due to flash floods that occurred on May 20.
Rescue operations led to the recovery of five men on Wednesday, while two remain missing. The cave, known for its narrow passages, poses significant challenges for rescuers. The successful extrication of the four men was reported around 15:10 local time on Saturday, although specific details regarding the rescue method have not been disclosed.
An unverified video shared by a Thai rescue worker captured the moment the men were freed, eliciting cheers from both rescuers and onlookers. Upon emerging, one man was seen smiling while the others embraced rescuers emotionally. Following their rescue, the men received medical attention in a makeshift facility.
Initial rescue strategies involved pumping out water from the cave, but when that approach proved ineffective, alternative plans were considered, including training the trapped men to scuba dive to safety.
