The Pentagon has canceled the planned deployment of 4,000 U.S. troops to Poland, a decision that has surprised Polish officials and prompted diplomatic discussions.

The 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, was scheduled for a rotational deployment to Poland. However, the Pentagon abruptly halted these plans, with Acting Pentagon Press Secretary Joel Valdez stating the move was "not an unexpected, last-minute decision."

Polish Deputy Defense Ministers Paweł Zalewski and Cezary Tomczyk are traveling to Washington to seek clarification. Zalewski expressed concern, noting that "no one in Poland knew that the rotation of the American brigade would be suspended."

Prime Minister Donald Tusk emphasized Poland's commitment to the alliance, stating, "You have the most loyal ally. It is worth remembering that, because America will not find a better ally anywhere." He described the U.S. decision as "logistical in nature" and assured it would not impact Poland's security.

Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz highlighted the lack of prior notification, stating, "At no point have we been informed that the presence of U.S. armed forces in Poland would be reduced." He added, "We are a proven and reliable ally, which is why we expect partnership, friendship, and a good exchange of information."

Kosiniak-Kamysz and General Wiesław Kukuła are scheduled to meet with U.S. military leaders, including General Dan Caine and General Alexus Grynkewich, to discuss the situation.

Poland remains a close political and military ally of the U.S., being one of Europe's largest purchasers of American weapons and a significant contributor to NATO's defense spending.
