NASA's Psyche Spacecraft Completes Mars Gravity-Assist Flyby

Science

Yahoo reported that NASA planned a close flyby of Mars for the Psyche spacecraft, intending to use the planet’s gravity to boost the probe’s trajectory toward the metal-rich asteroid Psyche. CBS News later confirmed that the spacecraft carried out the maneuver as scheduled.

CNN noted that the gravity assist increased Psyche’s speed and provided unique images of the Red Planet, showing the polar ice caps and atmospheric details. The Weather Channel added that the probe captured detailed photographs of Mars during the flyby.
