Ukraine Launches Massive Drone Attack on Russia, Resulting in Civilian Casualties
Ukraine conducted a large-scale drone assault on Russia, leading to multiple civilian deaths and injuries, as reported by Russian authorities.
In a significant escalation of hostilities, Ukraine launched a massive drone attack on Russia overnight, resulting in civilian casualties and widespread damage. Russian authorities reported that air defenses intercepted 556 drones across 14 regions, including Moscow, the annexed Crimean peninsula, and the Black and Azov seas.
The Moscow region was among the hardest hit. Governor Andrey Vorobyov stated that a woman was killed when a drone struck her private residence, and two men lost their lives in a separate incident. Additionally, one person remains trapped under rubble.
In Moscow itself, Mayor Sergei Sobyanin reported that air defense systems intercepted more than 80 drones overnight, resulting in 12 injuries. He noted that minor damage occurred at sites where debris fell, including near an oil and gas refinery, though production was not disrupted.
The Belgorod region also experienced casualties, with one man killed after a drone struck a truck.
This attack follows Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's recent vow to launch retaliatory strikes after a Russian assault on Kyiv resulted in 24 deaths.
Diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict remain stalled, with both sides continuing to exchange attacks. Ukraine has regularly targeted sites within Russia in response to ongoing bombardments by Russian forces.
