Pentagon Reverses Decision, Seeks Funding for E-7 Wedgetail
The Pentagon reversed its earlier decision and amended its Fiscal Year 2027 budget to request funding for the E-7 Wedgetail aircraft program. This change reflects a shift in procurement strategy to support the replacement of the aging E-3 Sentry fleet. According to The War Zone, the revised budget now includes provisions for acquiring the E-7 Wedgetail, which had previously been excluded.
This development follows concerns raised after the loss of an E-3 aircraft in an Iranian attack earlier in the year. The Pentagon's updated approach aims to modernize its airborne early warning capabilities by investing in the newer E-7 platform.
