SpaceX Completes Starship V3's First Test Flight at Starbase
SpaceX assembled the first full Starship V3 rocket stack at its Starbase facility in Texas, marking a significant milestone in its development efforts. The company announced the inaugural flight date and detailed design improvements aimed at enhancing performance and reusability. Preparations continued for the launch, which was set to be the 12th flight of the Starship program and the first from the newly built Pad 2 at Starbase. The launch faced several schedule adjustments, initially planned for May 19, then postponed to May 21 due to technical issues including a hydraulic pin problem. Safety concerns arose following a worker fatality at the site, but SpaceX proceeded with preparations.
The launch was ultimately rescheduled to May 22. On that date, SpaceX successfully conducted the first test flight of the Starship V3 rocket. Despite minor engine issues, the flight achieved key objectives and demonstrated the capabilities of the most powerful rocket built to date. This milestone advances SpaceX's plans to support future missions, including NASA's Artemis lunar program.
