U.S. Intelligence Reports Iran Maintains Significant Missile Capabilities

Summary

Classified U.S. intelligence assessments reveal that Iran has regained operational access to most of its missile sites, including those along the Strait of Hormuz, contradicting previous claims of a weakened Iranian military.

Recent classified U.S. intelligence assessments indicate that Iran has restored operational access to the majority of its missile sites, including 30 of the 33 facilities along the strategic Strait of Hormuz. This development suggests that Iran's military capabilities remain substantial, despite earlier assertions of significant degradation.

The assessments reveal that Iran retains approximately 70% of its prewar missile stockpile and mobile launchers. Additionally, nearly 90% of Iran's underground missile storage and launch facilities nationwide are now partially or fully operational.

White House spokeswoman Olivia Wales commented on the situation, stating that Iran's government knows that its "current reality is not sustainable" and that anyone who "thinks Iran has reconstituted its military is either delusional or a mouthpiece" for Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps.

These findings emerge amid escalating regional tensions. On May 7, U.S. and Iranian military forces exchanged fire in the Strait of Hormuz, with Iran launching missiles and drones targeting U.S. naval vessels, and the U.S. retaliating against Iranian launch sites and command centers.

The Strait of Hormuz remains a critical maritime chokepoint, with both nations enforcing selective blockades, leading to a significant reduction in maritime traffic.

These developments underscore the ongoing volatility in the region and the challenges in achieving a lasting resolution to the conflict.
