U.S.-Iran Talks in Islamabad Conclude Without Agreement

Ամփոփում

After 21 hours of negotiations in Islamabad, the United States and Iran failed to reach a ceasefire agreement, with key disputes over the Strait of Hormuz and nuclear enrichment unresolved.

After 21 hours of negotiations in Islamabad, the United States and Iran concluded talks without reaching a ceasefire agreement. U.S. Vice President JD Vance stated that the U.S. had presented its final offer, which Iran did not accept.

The discussions, held at the Serena Hotel, aimed to address critical issues including the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and Iran's nuclear program. The U.S. demanded immediate reopening of the strait to all maritime traffic, while Iran insisted on maintaining control until a final peace deal was reached.

Additionally, Iran sought the release of approximately $27 billion in frozen revenues held abroad for reconstruction purposes, a request the U.S. declined.

The failure to reach an agreement raises concerns about the stability of the fragile two-week ceasefire established on April 7, which is set to expire on April 22.
