Iranian Missile Strikes Injure Dozens in Southern Israel
Iranian missile attacks on Arad and central Israel result in numerous injuries and escalate regional tensions.
Iran launched a ballistic missile at the southern Israeli city of Arad on Saturday night, injuring at least 84 people, including 10 in serious condition, according to Magen David Adom. A five-year-old child was among those seriously wounded. All injured individuals were transported to Soroka Medical Center in Beersheba for further treatment.
In a separate incident on Sunday morning, Iran fired a cluster munition at central Israel. Israeli media reported multiple fragments falling in the area; however, no injuries were reported, as stated by Magen David Adom.
These attacks mark the beginning of the fourth week of Operation Roaring Lion, a conflict that has seen escalating hostilities between Israel and Iran. The use of cluster munitions, which disperse bomblets over a wide area, has raised concerns due to their potential to cause indiscriminate harm. Amnesty International has previously condemned their use, stating that such weapons are "inherently indiscriminate" and their deployment in populated areas endangers civilian lives.
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) estimate that approximately 50% of the missiles fired by Iran toward Israel carry cluster warheads, posing additional hazards to civilians. The ongoing conflict has resulted in significant casualties and heightened tensions in the region.
