Drought Worsens Food Crisis in Northern Kenya
Northern Kenya, particularly Turkana County, faced escalating hunger and malnutrition as a result of a prolonged and severe drought. The Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) reported a significant deterioration in food security and malnutrition across the region, driven by consecutive failed rainfall seasons.
Following these findings, the situation was recognized as critical, affecting local communities and refugees in areas such as Dadaab. The worsening drought conditions have led to urgent calls for increased funding and emergency interventions to address the growing humanitarian needs in Mandera, Marsabit, Turkana, Garissa counties, and refugee camps.
