Google has unveiled 'Ask Maps,' an AI-driven conversational feature, and 'Immersive Navigation,' a 3D mapping experience, marking the most significant update to Google Maps in over a decade.

Google has announced a major update to its Maps application, introducing two key features: 'Ask Maps' and 'Immersive Navigation.' These enhancements represent the most significant overhaul of Google Maps in over a decade.

'Ask Maps' is a conversational AI feature powered by Google's Gemini model, allowing users to pose complex, contextual queries in natural language. For example, users can ask, 'Is there a public tennis court with lights on that I can play at tonight?' and receive personalized recommendations based on their preferences and past searches. This feature is currently rolling out in the U.S. and India on Android and iOS devices, with a desktop version to follow.

'Immersive Navigation' offers a 3D mapping experience that integrates photorealistic renderings of buildings, roads, and terrain into turn-by-turn directions. This update includes visual cues such as lane markings, traffic lights, crosswalks, and stop signs, enhancing the navigation experience. Voice guidance has also been updated to use landmark-based instructions, providing more intuitive directions. This feature is initially available in the U.S. across iOS, Android, CarPlay, Android Auto, and vehicles with Google built-in.

These updates reflect Google's commitment to integrating advanced AI capabilities into its widely used services, aiming to provide users with more personalized and immersive navigation experiences.
