In response to the United States' recent naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, China has maintained its energy security through a combination of strategic reserves, alternative supply routes, and a strong focus on renewable energy.
The U.S. initiated the blockade on April 13, 2026, aiming to pressure Iran by restricting its oil exports. This move has raised global concerns about potential disruptions to energy supplies and escalating geopolitical tensions.
China, a major importer of Middle Eastern oil, has taken proactive measures to mitigate the impact of such disruptions. The country has built substantial strategic petroleum reserves, providing a buffer against supply interruptions. Additionally, China has diversified its energy sources by increasing imports from Russia and investing heavily in renewable energy infrastructure, including nuclear, hydropower, geothermal, and solar energy.
