ECB Plans Global Expansion of Euro Liquidity Facility
The European Central Bank (ECB) has updated its Eurosystem repo facility, known as EUREP, to broaden access and increase flexibility for central banks. This move aims to support the smooth transmission of monetary policy within the euro area by enhancing euro liquidity provision.
Following this update, the ECB announced plans to make its euro liquidity backstop globally accessible and permanent. This expansion is intended to strengthen the euro's international standing by providing a reliable liquidity facility to central banks worldwide, thereby reinforcing the currency's global role.
