Maharashtra Zilla Parishad Elections: NCP Dominates Baramati, Mahayuti Secures Kolhapur
The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) achieved a clean sweep in Baramati during the Maharashtra Zilla Parishad elections, while the Mahayuti alliance secured victory in Kolhapur.
In the recent Maharashtra Zilla Parishad elections, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) secured all six Zilla Parishad seats and all 12 Panchayat Samiti seats in Baramati taluka. This region, a stronghold of the NCP, saw both factions led by Sharad Pawar and the late Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar contesting in alliance.
In Kolhapur, the Mahayuti alliance emerged victorious, with the NCP winning 19 seats, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) securing 10, and the Shiv Sena obtaining eight seats. The Congress faced a setback, securing only 15 seats.
In Pune district, the NCP is leading in 43 out of the 73 Zilla Parishad seats. Sambhaji Holkar, NCP Pune district president, stated, "Voters have paid tributes to Ajit Pawar by ensuring victory of NCP candidates in Pune ZP polls."
The elections, held on February 7, recorded a voter turnout of 68.28%, with Parbhani district registering the highest participation at 74.89% and Ratnagiri the lowest at 55.79%. The polls were postponed from their original date of February 5 due to the death of Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar in a plane crash and the subsequent state mourning.
