Namibian Prosecutor's Death Sparks Calls for Enhanced Security Measures
Justine Shiweda, the regional control prosecutor in Ondangwa, Namibia, was attacked with acid and gunfire in October 2025 while on duty. She was treated at Windhoek Central Hospital in Khomas but died from her injuries in February 2026. Following her death, the Namibian government pledged to cover all her medical expenses. Lawyer Kadhila Amoomo called on the Ministry of Justice and Labour Relations to provide compensation to Shiweda's family. The Oshana police investigated the attack, arrested suspects, and authorities upgraded the case from assault to murder. The incident sparked national discussions about the safety of judicial officers in Namibia. The Independent Patriots for Change (IPC) and other officials condemned the attack and urged thorough investigations. Namibians gathered to mourn and honor the late prosecutor.
