Mozilla Introduces AI Controls in Firefox 148 for Enhanced User Choice
Mozilla's upcoming Firefox 148 update will provide users with comprehensive controls to manage or disable AI features, ensuring personalized browsing experiences.
Mozilla has announced that starting with Firefox version 148, set for release on February 24, 2026, users will have the ability to manage or disable generative AI features through a new AI controls section in the desktop browser settings.
Ajit Varma, Head of Firefox, emphasized the importance of user choice in the evolving landscape of AI integration: "We believe choice is more important than ever as AI becomes a part of people’s browsing experiences. What matters to us is giving people control, no matter how they feel about AI."
The AI controls will allow users to manage individual features, including page translation, automatic alt text generation for images in PDFs, AI-enhanced tab grouping, link previews that summarize destination pages, and a sidebar chatbot that supports services such as Anthropic Claude, ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, Google Gemini, and Le Chat Mistral.
Additionally, a 'Block AI enhancements' toggle will enable users to disable all listed AI features with a single action. When this toggle is active, Firefox will not display existing or upcoming AI features, including pop-ups or reminders to use them.
This initiative reflects Mozilla's commitment to providing users with control over their browsing experience, catering to both those who wish to utilize AI tools and those who prefer a more traditional browsing environment.
