A high-speed police chase in Tampa's Ybor City district resulted in a car crashing into a bar, leaving four dead and eleven injured.
Early Saturday morning, a high-speed police pursuit in Tampa's Ybor City district ended tragically when a vehicle crashed into a bar, resulting in four fatalities and eleven injuries. The incident began around 12:40 a.m. when a police air unit observed a silver sedan driving recklessly on Interstate 275. The vehicle exited the interstate and continued at high speed through city streets. The Florida Highway Patrol attempted a precision immobilization technique (PIT) maneuver to stop the car, but it was unsuccessful. The pursuit was then discontinued. Shortly thereafter, the driver lost control and collided with patrons outside Bradley's on 7th, a bar located in the historic Ybor City neighborhood. Three individuals died at the scene, and a fourth succumbed to injuries at a hospital. Among the injured, two remain in critical condition, seven are stable, and two have been discharged. The driver, identified as 22-year-old Silas Sampson from Dade City, was arrested at the scene. He faces multiple first-degree felony charges, including vehicular homicide and aggravated fleeing. Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw described the event as a "senseless tragedy" and emphasized the dangers of reckless driving. Mayor Jane Castor expressed condolences, stating that the entire city feels the loss. The investigation is ongoing.
