Blue Jays Dominate Dodgers 11-4 in World Series Opener

Summary

Toronto's nine-run sixth inning, highlighted by Addison Barger's historic pinch-hit grand slam, propels them to a decisive Game 1 victory over Los Angeles.

In the opening game of the 2025 World Series, the Toronto Blue Jays secured an 11-4 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers at Rogers Centre. The game was marked by a historic nine-run sixth inning for Toronto, featuring the first pinch-hit grand slam in World Series history by Addison Barger.

The Dodgers initially led, with Enrique Hernández and Will Smith driving in runs in the second and third innings, respectively. Toronto responded in the fourth inning when Daulton Varsho hit a two-run homer to center field, tying the game at 2-2.

The pivotal sixth inning began with Dodgers' starting pitcher Blake Snell loading the bases by hitting Varsho with a pitch. Reliever Emmet Sheehan then allowed a single to Ernie Clement, giving Toronto its first lead. Subsequent walks and hits extended the lead to 5-2. Manager Dave Roberts replaced Sheehan with Anthony Banda, but Barger’s grand slam and Alejandro Kirk’s two-run homer further widened the gap to 11-2.

Shohei Ohtani hit a two-run home run in the seventh inning for the Dodgers, but it wasn't enough to close the deficit. The Blue Jays' victory was their first World Series game win since 1993.

Game 2 is scheduled for Saturday evening in Toronto before the series moves to Los Angeles.
