Blue Jays Overpower Dodgers with Historic Sixth Inning in World Series Opener
The Toronto Blue Jays secured an 11-4 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 1 of the World Series, highlighted by a record-breaking nine-run sixth inning.
In the opening game of the World Series, the Toronto Blue Jays defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 11-4 at Rogers Centre, marking the first World Series game in Toronto since 1993. The pivotal moment came in the sixth inning when the Blue Jays scored nine runs, the highest-scoring inning in their postseason history.
Addison Barger made history by hitting the first pinch-hit grand slam in World Series history, breaking a 2-2 tie and giving Toronto a 9-2 lead. Alejandro Kirk contributed with a two-run homer in the same inning, further extending the lead.
Daulton Varsho initiated the comeback with a two-run home run in the fourth inning, tying the game at 2-2. Reflecting on the team's performance, Varsho stated, "We didn’t try to do anything more. Honestly, we just showed everybody what we can do as a lineup."
On the Dodgers' side, Shohei Ohtani hit a two-run homer in the seventh inning, his fourth in two games, but it wasn't enough to close the gap.
The Blue Jays' victory gives them a 1-0 lead in the best-of-seven series. Game 2 is scheduled for Saturday night at Rogers Centre.
