Federal Judge Summons Border Patrol Commander Greg Bovino to Court
U.S. District Judge Sara Ellis has ordered Border Patrol Commander Greg Bovino to appear in court following allegations of unjustified use of tear gas in Chicago's Little Village neighborhood.
U.S. District Judge Sara Ellis has ordered Border Patrol Commander Greg Bovino to appear in court next Tuesday, amid escalating concerns over federal immigration enforcement tactics in Chicago. The directive follows allegations that Bovino deployed tear gas without justification during an incident in the Little Village neighborhood.
In a brief order, Judge Ellis instructed federal authorities to "produce Defendant Gregory Bovino, in person, for this hearing." This development comes after the judge extended the duration for Bovino's deposition in an ongoing lawsuit challenging federal arrest practices in the city.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin stated that Bovino engaged in "riot control measures" after a "mob of rioters grew more hostile" and threw objects at agents, "including one that struck Chief Greg Bovino in the head." DHS has not yet responded to inquiries regarding Judge Ellis's order.
