UN Report Accuses Sudan's RSF of War Crimes in El Fasher
In late October 2025, Sudan's Rapid Support Forces (RSF) captured El-Fasher, North Darfur, including the Sudanese army's 6th Infantry Division headquarters. Following the takeover, the RSF conducted attacks on shelters and killed hundreds of civilians, including patients at the Saudi Maternity Hospital. Satellite imagery analyzed by Yale's Humanitarian Research Lab and investigations confirmed mass killings and atrocities.
A UN report released in early 2026 concluded that the RSF committed acts in El-Fasher bearing the hallmarks of genocide, including mass killings and sexual violence, with over 6,000 people killed during the offensive. The conflict caused a severe humanitarian crisis, with famine declared in El-Fasher and tens of thousands of civilians fleeing to overcrowded camps.
International leaders condemned the violence and called for an immediate ceasefire. The RSF arrested several fighters amid allegations of mass executions, though concerns about accountability remain. The UN report detailed alleged war crimes by the RSF during their assault on El-Fasher in October 2025.
