Former Lostprophets Singer Ian Watkins Killed in Prison Stabbing
Ian Watkins, former lead singer of Lostprophets, was fatally stabbed in HMP Wakefield, where he was serving a 29-year sentence for child sex offenses.
Ian Watkins, the former lead singer of the Welsh rock band Lostprophets, was fatally stabbed in HMP Wakefield, a high-security prison in northern England. Watkins, 48, was serving a 29-year sentence for multiple child sex offenses, including attempted rape of a baby and sexual assault of a one-year-old.
The attack occurred on a Saturday morning. Emergency services were called to the scene, but Watkins was pronounced dead shortly thereafter. British police have arrested two men, aged 25 and 43, on suspicion of murder, and an investigation is ongoing.
HMP Wakefield, often referred to as the 'Monster Mansion,' houses some of the UK's most notorious criminals.
Watkins had previously been attacked in prison. In 2023, he was taken hostage by fellow inmates and beaten for over six hours over a drug debt he supposedly owed.
Lostprophets, the band Watkins fronted, disbanded following his arrest in 2012.
