Former FBI Director James Comey Indicted on Federal Charges

Former FBI Director James Comey has been indicted by a federal grand jury on charges of making false statements and obstructing a congressional investigation. The indictment alleges that Comey obstructed a congressional probe into the disclosure of sensitive information and falsely testified that he did not authorize an FBI official to serve as an anonymous source.

Attorney General Pamela Bondi emphasized the Department of Justice's commitment to accountability, stating,

"No one is above the law. Today's indictment reflects this Department of Justice's commitment to holding those who abuse positions of power accountable for misleading the American people."

FBI Director Kash Patel highlighted efforts to restore public trust, noting,

"For far too long, previous corrupt leadership and their enablers weaponized federal law enforcement, damaging once proud institutions and severely eroding public trust. Every day, we continue the fight to earn that trust back."

Comey is expected to surrender on Friday, September 26, with an arraignment scheduled for October 9 in the U.S. District Court in Alexandria, Virginia. He has denied the charges and expressed his intention to contest them in court.
