Valve opens reservations for Steam Frame VR headset with limited-time sign-up
Valve has started a 72-hour reservation period for its upcoming Steam Frame VR headset, with customers entered into a random draw and notifications beginning September 18.
Valve announced that reservations for its new Steam Frame virtual-reality headset are now open and will remain available for 72 hours, closing at 1:00 PM ET on September 17. Interested buyers are placed on a randomized list and will be contacted starting September 18 if selected.
"We found the reservation system to be helpful with the launch of Steam Machine by improving the purchase experience and limiting resellers, and are implementing it once again for Steam Frame," the company said in a press release.
The wireless headset supports both VR and non-VR Steam games and includes two hand controllers, a built-in 21.6 Wh battery, and a copy of Half-Life: Alyx. It requires an external power source; any USB-C charger rated at 45 W or higher, such as a Steam Deck charger, can be used.
Two storage options are offered: a 256 GB model priced at $1,059 USD and a 1 TB model at $1,299 USD, with regional pricing listed in the release. Technical specifications include a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, 16 GB of unified LPDDR5X RAM, 256 GB UFS storage with a microSD slot, 2160 × 2160 LCD panels per eye, a refresh rate up to 144 Hz, inside-out camera tracking, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, dual speakers and microphones, and SteamOS 3.
Valve also offers an ergonomic accessories kit for $59 USD, which adds straps for the controllers and headset and an extended light blocker, described by the company as designed for comfort during extended play sessions.
