Trump urges Ukraine to halt attacks on Russian diesel refineries amid record U.S. diesel prices
President Donald Trump asked Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to stop targeting Russian diesel-producing facilities as U.S. diesel prices rose above $6 per gallon, while Russia extended its diesel export ban.
President Donald Trump told Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to cease strikes on Russian diesel refineries, saying the attacks are contributing to global fuel shortages. Trump made the appeal during an official visit to Ireland, emphasizing the need to avoid further diesel supply disruptions.
Ukraine has intensified attacks on Russian oil facilities in recent months, aiming to increase the war's cost for Moscow. The strikes have reduced Russia's refining capacity and led Moscow to extend a ban on diesel exports through the end of September to stabilize domestic supplies.
A spokesperson for Ukraine's foreign ministry did not respond to requests for comment. The Kremlin welcomed Trump's request, with spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stating that any call for Kyiv to stop attacks on civilian economic infrastructure "can only be welcomed."
U.S. diesel prices hit a record high, with the national average reaching $6.06 per gallon, according to AAA data. The increase coincides with rising crude oil prices as fighting continues between the United States and Iran. Brent crude futures for November rose 3.6% to $108.41 per barrel, while West Texas Intermediate for October gained 3.5% to $103.54 per barrel.
