Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold to miss at least one more game as hip injury is evaluated

Summary

Seattle quarterback Sam Darnold is undergoing additional medical evaluations for a glute tendon injury and will miss the upcoming game, with his return date still uncertain.

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold is seeking further medical opinions after sustaining a hip-area injury in the team’s season-opening win over the New England Patriots. Darnold left the field early in the first quarter and was replaced by backup Drew Lock, then ruled out for the rest of the game.

"Initially, they actually thought he fractured that hip socket, which would have put him out for the year. Instead, there is a tendon injury in the glute. They’re still trying to gather information," said FOX Sports analyst Jay Glazer on "FOX NFL Sunday."

Subsequent tests indicated the injury is not season-ending, but the Seahawks are consulting four external specialists to determine a treatment plan and timeline. Glazer added that Darnold will miss next week’s game, though his availability beyond that remains unclear.

The injury comes after Darnold led Seattle to its first Super Bowl appearance in a decade, and the team will need to adjust its quarterback situation while he recovers.
