Practical Magic 2 earns $46 million worldwide in opening weekend
Warner Bros. and Alcon's sequel opened with $30 million domestically and $16 million internationally, falling short of the studio's overseas expectations.
Warner Bros. and Alcon reported that Practical Magic 2 debuted with a $46 million global box-office total, including $30 million in the United States and $16 million from overseas markets. The international figure was below the studio’s target range of $18 million to $23 million across 77 territories.
The film’s strongest markets were English-language regions, with the United Kingdom delivering $3.9 million, Australia $2.2 million and the United States $30 million. Smaller openings were recorded in Mexico ($1.2 million), Germany ($770,000), Spain ($651,000) and France ($569,000). Compared with earlier Sandra Bullock-led releases, the opening aligns with titles such as Lost City and pre-COVID Ocean’s 8, though it lags behind the performance of those films in several overseas territories.
Industry analysts had projected a domestic opening of $38 million to $40 million, but the actual $30 million suggests the sequel is performing as a modest-scale continuation of a 1990s-era franchise rather than a major blockbuster.
"The opening reflects the film’s appeal as a cult-type property rather than a mass-market event," a Warner Bros. spokesperson said.
The movie’s overseas performance was also modest compared with comparable sequels, with the United Kingdom and Australia exceeding the start of the comparable title Freakier Friday, while markets such as Mexico, Germany and France fell short of that benchmark.
