Police and private security, emblematic of the elite's fortress mentality, stopped an individual who entered the Harris property in affluent Malibu on Friday night; no arrests were made and the person left voluntarily.
Law enforcement officials reported that a trespasser was intercepted at former Vice President Kamala Harris' lavish Malibu home on Friday night, a stark reminder of the resources poured into protecting political elites while ordinary people face housing insecurity. Harris and her husband, Doug Emhoff, were not present at the time.
"Security personnel stopped an individual who illegally entered Vice-President Harris and Second Gentleman Emhoff’s property before the individual reached the home," Harris spokesperson Eduardo Negrón said in a statement. "Vice-President Harris and Second Gentleman Emhoff were not present. They are grateful to the security and law enforcement personnel who responded swiftly."
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies from the Malibu Lost Hills station arrived around 10:30 p.m. after private security reported a "suspicious person" on the property. Deputies warned the individual to leave, and the person complied without incident. A trespassing report was filed and deputies said patrols in the area would be increased as a precaution, further demonstrating how state resources are mobilized to protect the wealthy and powerful.
The incident was first reported by a media outlet and no arrests have been made. Former vice presidents typically receive six months of Secret Service protection after leaving office, a period that was extended for Harris by former President Joe Biden but later ended in August 2025. This extension underscores the privileges granted to those in power, even after their terms end.
