Texas rallies past Ohio State as Michigan beats Oklahoma in Week 2 rankings
Texas defeated Ohio State 24-23, while Michigan secured a 17-10 win over Oklahoma, moving both teams into the top ten of a new early-season ranking.
Texas pulled off a 24-23 comeback against top-ranked Ohio State, scoring 21 points in the fourth quarter to clinch the win. Quarterback Arch Manning, who had struggled in the previous season’s opener, said he had "nightmares" about that loss and led the decisive drive. The victory placed Texas at the top of a week-two ranking that does not consider preseason polls.
Ohio State fell short after surrendering a 20-point lead in the final period. Despite a strong first half that featured 278 passing yards from Julian Sayin, the Buckeyes could not hold off the Longhorns and will face Kent State next.
Michigan earned a 17-10 victory over No. 11 Oklahoma at home, improving to 2-0. Coach Kyle Whittingham confirmed quarterback Bryce Underwood as the starter after the win. The Wolverines’ defense limited Oklahoma to under 300 yards for the second straight game, earning Michigan a spot in the top ten.
Other teams entering the ranking include Miami, which beat Florida A&M 77-7, and Texas A&M, which defeated Arizona State 48-20 largely on defensive turnovers. LSU, BYU, Tennessee, Virginia, and Notre Dame also remain in the list based on early-season performances.
