70-Year-Old Hiker Found Safe After Week-Long Search on Isle Royale
A 70-year-old man from Royal Oak who went missing during a solo hike on Isle Royale National Park was located by other hikers after a week of searching.
A 70-year-old Royal Oak resident who disappeared while on a solo trek in Isle Royale National Park was found safe by fellow backpackers, park officials said. Craig Berg was discovered after a week of intensive searching, according to a post on the park’s Facebook page.
Park authorities noted that the reasons for his failure to return remain unclear and that further details will be released after the investigation continues. Berg’s son, Evan Berg, told 7 News Detroit that the last contact with his father was on Sept. 2 and that multiple agencies had been involved in the search effort. He said photographs of his father were displayed at every campsite on the island and that park staff were questioning all visitors about possible sightings.
Evan Berg added that the remote and rugged terrain of Isle Royale made the search particularly difficult.
