Prince William skeptical of Harry and Meghan's return to the UK
A source said Prince William doubted his brother Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's comeback would be smooth, noting ongoing family stress after Kate Middleton's cancer remission.
A source close to the royal family told a U.S. outlet that Prince William was less optimistic than King Charles about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's recent return to the United Kingdom, describing his reaction as an "I told you so" moment. The source said William has not spoken to Harry since the couple's arrival and remains unsettled by the stress they caused, especially after Kate Middleton's recent cancer remission.
The source added that William and Kate are not required to respond publicly, and suggested that past patterns indicate the Sussexes may further distance themselves from any reconciliation. Harry and Meghan, who stepped back from royal duties in 2020, announced their return last month to be nearer to King Charles, who is undergoing cancer treatment, and to allow their children, Archie and Lilibet, to spend more time with family.
King Charles later issued a letter, conveyed by the lord chamberlain, confirming that the couple will not hold official royal positions or use the style "His/Her Royal Highness" while residing in England. The correspondence clarified that they remain private citizens with commercial and charitable interests and cannot adopt a hybrid role of partial royal duties.
Harry and Meghan have not publicly responded to the letter, and sources said they are frustrated with its wording.
