Posthumous Dolly Parton recording released ahead of tribute album
A previously recorded duet of Dolly Parton on the song “Bound To Ride” was released two weeks after her death, serving as the lead single for an upcoming Stanley Brothers tribute album.
A new version of the 1964 Stanley Brothers song “Bound To Ride,” featuring Dolly Parton’s vocals recorded in 2022, was made public on Wednesday via YouTube. The track is the first posthumous release from the late country star and precedes the full tribute compilation “Where the Soul Never Dies: Celebrating 80 Years of The Stanley Brothers,” scheduled for release on Oct. 16. The album will also include contributions from Willie Nelson, Sierra Ferrell, Dierks Bentley with Della Mae, and Steve Martin with Ed Helms, among others.
Parton’s sister Stella Parton recalled that Dolly continued working up until her final conversation, noting her dedication to both music and the Broadway production “Dolly: A True Original Musical,” which is set to begin previews on Dec. 7 at New York’s St. James Theatre, with an opening night slated for Jan. 19, 2027.
The Grammy-winning artist died on Aug. 25 after a private illness and was interred beside her husband, Carl Dean, at Woodlawn Memorial Park and Mausoleum.
