Packers running back Josh Jacobs remains on NFL exempt list after plea

Summary

Green Bay running back Josh Jacobs stayed on the NFL Commissioner’s Exempt List following a no-contest plea to misdemeanor battery and property-damage charges, with the league continuing its personal-conduct review.

Green Bay running back Josh Jacobs will stay on the NFL Commissioner’s Exempt List after entering a no-contest plea to misdemeanor battery and criminal damage to property charges. A judge fined Jacobs for the battery offense and set conditions that could lead to dismissal of the property-damage charge after a year. Both offenses are classified as Class A misdemeanors.

"We have been closely monitoring all developments in the matter which remains under review of the personal conduct policy. There is no change to his status as he remains on the Commissioner’s Exempt List," NFL spokesperson Brian McCarthy said.

The league placed Jacobs on the exempt list on Aug. 30, barring him from practice and games while he continues to receive his salary. The hearing, originally set for Nov. 17, was moved up to Thursday, three days before the Packers open the season against the Minnesota Vikings.

Packers head coach Matt LaFleur said the outcome could provide more clarity but emphasized that the situation remains unresolved.

Jacobs, a three-time Pro Bowl selection and team captain who joined Green Bay in March after five seasons with the Las Vegas Raiders, faces charges stemming from a May 23 incident at his home involving an altercation over a cellphone.

The Packers are scheduled to begin the regular season on Sunday in Minneapolis.
