Early Geekbench Scores Show iPhone 18 Pro Models’ A20 Pro Chip Gains Speed

Summary

Pre-release Geekbench 7 data suggest the A20 Pro processor in the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max delivers roughly 20% faster single-core and up to 28% faster multi-core performance than its predecessor, with a 38%-40% boost in GPU speed.

Pre-release benchmark data posted to the Geekbench 7 database indicate that the A20 Pro chip powering the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max offers notable performance improvements over the prior A19 Pro. The iPhone 18 Pro recorded a single-core score of 4,719 and a multi-core score of 12,677, while the Pro Max posted 4,725 and 12,575 respectively, reflecting an estimated 21%-23% increase in single-core and 27%-28% rise in multi-core throughput.

"Apple says the A20 Pro offers up to 20% faster CPU performance compared to the A19 Pro chip in the iPhone 17 Pro models, while the new seven-core GPU is up to 40% faster," the company’s press release states.

Early Metal scores from Geekbench 6, also unverified, suggest the seven-core GPU in the new models is about 38%-40% faster than the six-core GPU in the A19 Pro. The chip is built on a 2-nanometer process, includes a six-core CPU running near 4.93 GHz, integrated neural accelerators, and 50% more memory bandwidth. Apple also claims the new packaging and vapor-chamber cooling provide up to 40% better sustained performance.

Analysts caution that these single-run benchmarks have not been independently validated and may not reflect real-world performance during extended gaming or other intensive tasks.
