TSA PreCheck members can escort non-ticketed guests to gates at select airports

Summary

The Transportation Security Administration has begun a pilot program that lets eligible TSA PreCheck members without a boarding pass pass through security and access gate areas at 13 U.S. airports.

The Transportation Security Administration announced a pilot program that permits qualified TSA PreCheck members who are not traveling to move through security checkpoints and enter gate areas at a limited number of airports. Eligible members must apply online for a guest pass at least one day and no more than three days before the intended visit and receive approval before arriving at the airport.

If approved, the guest may use a TSA PreCheck lane with a valid ID; those lacking acceptable ID can attempt verification through TSA ConfirmID for a $45 fee, though verification is not guaranteed. Passes are valid for a single calendar day but allow re-entry on that day, and children may be included if listed on a parent or guardian’s application.

The program, named Gateside by TSA PreCheck, is being rolled out at 13 airports, including Los Angeles International, San Diego International, Dallas-Fort Worth International, Salt Lake City International and Harry Reid International in Las Vegas, with plans to add more locations in the coming months. The TSA noted that members of other trusted-traveler programs who possess a Known Traveler Number may also apply for gate access.

"As an exclusive benefit for our most trusted travelers, this new program makes it easier to return to the gate for welcomes and send-offs, meet friends during a layover, and enjoy dining and shopping along the way," the agency said on its website.
