Apple unveils iPhone 18 Pro line and first foldable Duo with new C2 5G modem
Apple introduced the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and the iPhone Duo foldable, all equipped with its in-house C2 modem that supports mmWave 5G in the United States.
Apple announced its latest iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max models alongside the iPhone Duo, the company's first foldable device. Both the iPhone 18 Pro and the Duo incorporate Apple’s newly designed C2 modem for 5G connectivity, which the company says now supports mmWave bands in the United States.
The press materials indicate that the C2 modem is used in the iPhone 18 Pro, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max continues to rely on Qualcomm modems, though the reason for the split has not been explained. Apple claims the C2 delivers AI-enhanced cellular quality, faster upload speeds compared with the previous C1X modem, and consumes about 15 percent less power.
U.S. specifications list mmWave bands n258, n260 and n261, in addition to sub-6 GHz 5G with 4×4 MIMO; the U.K. specifications list only sub-6 GHz bands. Both new iPhone models also feature Apple’s N1 wireless chip, which enables Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and Thread support.
The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max will be offered in burgundy, glacier, silver and black, starting at $1,199 and $1,299 respectively, with storage options from 256 GB to 2 TB. Orders open on September 12. The iPhone Duo will be available in star white and night sky, priced from $1,999, with pre-orders beginning October 16 and shipments starting October 23.
