Seahawks defeat Patriots 13-10 in NFL season opener
Seattle won 13-10 after a late interception by cornerback Josh Jobe, while New England quarterback Drake Maye threw three interceptions in his debut.
Seattle secured a 13-10 victory over New England in the NFL’s opening week at Lumen Field. The decisive play came on the final drive when Patriots quarterback Drake Maye attempted a pass to the end zone that was intercepted by Seahawks cornerback Josh Jobe, who landed with both feet in bounds for a game-sealing turnover.
Maye completed 23 of 33 passes for 178 yards and one touchdown but was also responsible for three interceptions, two of which occurred in the fourth quarter. The Patriots had moved into field-goal range on a fourth-and-9 conversion with under a minute left, but the turnover ended their comeback attempt.
Seattle’s backup quarterback, Drew Lock, entered the game after starter Sam Darnold left with a hip injury early in the contest. Lock threw for 187 yards and a touchdown without a turnover, and wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba contributed eight catches for 122 yards, including a 45-yard touchdown on a fourth-down play.
Patriots wide receiver A.J. Brown left the game with an ankle injury after recording three receptions for 26 yards. The Seahawks will assess Darnold’s injury later in the week, while New England looks to address the turnovers that cost them the win.
