Apple CEO John Ternus Unveils Foldable iPhone Duo and AI Features at Annual Event
Apple's new CEO John Ternus introduced a foldable iPhone Duo priced at $1,999 and announced expanded AI tools across its product lineup during the company's pre-recorded product event.
Apple executive John Ternus appeared as the company's chief executive at its annual product event on Wednesday, where he presented a new foldable iPhone and additional artificial-intelligence capabilities. The foldable model, called the iPhone Duo, unfolds to a screen that is 80% larger than the current Pro version and 50% larger than the Max edition. It is priced at $1,999, with pre-orders opening on October 16 and retail availability the following week.
"The Duo reflects what’s possible when we bring our very best teams together," Ternus said, adding that a larger display could enable new uses while still fitting comfortably in a pocket.
When folded, the device is roughly the size of a passport. Ternus contrasted the Duo with other manufacturers' foldables, noting that some designs result in square screens and black bars that diminish the viewing experience.
The presentation also highlighted Apple’s approach to AI. Ternus said Apple Intelligence runs on the device whenever possible and uses private cloud compute for more demanding tasks, emphasizing that the company does not allow anyone, including Apple, to access user data.
"Trust only goes so far when your data is no longer yours to control," he said.
He described the iPhone as central to an ecosystem of intelligent features that operate across Apple products. The event previewed upcoming enhancements such as a more capable Siri, health insights from the Apple Watch, and new AirPods functions like live translation.
Ternus, who succeeded Tim Cook as CEO on September 1, also referenced the iPhone’s origins as a personal communication hub and outlined the vision for future devices that combine AI with personal context.
