TSA PreCheck members can now access airport gates without a ticket at select locations
The Transportation Security Administration has introduced a program that lets eligible TSA PreCheck members walk through security and reach the gates without a boarding pass at 13 airports, with plans to expand nationwide.
The Transportation Security Administration announced a new service that permits qualified TSA PreCheck members to pass through security checkpoints and enter the gate area without holding a plane ticket. The initiative, named "Gateside by TSA PreCheck," is being rolled out at 13 airports, including Los Angeles International, Dallas-Fort Worth International, Harry Reid International in Las Vegas and Salt Lake City International. Applicants must submit an online request one to three days before their intended visit and receive approval before arriving at the airport. Approved visitors use a TSA PreCheck lane and present a valid ID; the pass is valid for a single calendar day and can be used for re-entry on the same day.
The program is offered at no cost and is also open to members of other trusted-traveler programs who possess a Known Traveler Number. TSA indicated that additional airports will be added in the coming months. Similar gate-access programs already exist at some airports, such as Pittsburgh International's "myPITpass," which was paused during the pandemic and construction work.
"As an exclusive benefit for our most trusted travelers, this new program makes it easier to return to the gate for welcomes and send-offs, meet friends during a layover, and enjoy dining and shopping along the way, bringing back the moments that once defined air travel," TSA said on its website.
