LSU rises to No. 8 while Michigan drops out of AP Top 25 after Week 1

Summary

LSU moved up three spots to No. 8 after a 51-10 win over Clemson, while Michigan fell out of the AP Top 25 despite a narrow victory over Western Michigan.

LSU advanced to No. 8 in the Associated Press Top 25 after a 51-10 victory over Clemson, moving ahead of its upcoming opponent Ole Miss, which sits at No. 9. Michigan, which had been ranked No. 16 in the preseason poll, was removed from the AP Top 25 after a 13-12 win over Western Michigan that involved a controversial last-second play. The team remains in the Coaches Poll but lost all AP votes.

Oregon slipped from No. 6 to No. 10 following a close win over Boise State. Ohio State retained the top spot with 46 first-place votes, followed by Georgia and Notre Dame.

"The MAC has stated that the replay protocol was not properly followed in Michigan's win and is asking the Football Oversight Committee and College Football Playoff Committee to recognize Western Michigan as the winner," the conference said.

The poll also showed Ole Miss at No. 9 after beating Louisville, while Miami, despite a 45-6 win over Stanford, stayed at No. 7. Other teams in the top 25 include Texas, Indiana, Texas A&M and Oklahoma.
