Documents show Karmelo Anthony possessed firearms and sent racist texts before fatal stabbing
A 75-page dossier obtained by a newspaper includes photos of Anthony with weapons and excerpts of racist and violent messages he sent before killing Austin Metcalf, evidence that was not presented at his trial.
A 75-page collection of documents obtained by a UK newspaper contains photographs of Karmelo Anthony holding a handgun in a November 2024 video and an AK-47-style rifle in May 2024, as well as a video showing him point a gun at a residence before fleeing on Jan. 4, 2025. The materials also include text-message excerpts in which Anthony used racist language toward Black women and expressed hostility toward gay people and political figures.
"I despise black women," one message to his girlfriend read, according to the documents.
"These gay people are ruining everything," he wrote in a June 2021 exchange.
The dossier further details alleged criminal behavior, including a claim that Anthony broke into a neighbor’s home and stole a watch in October 2024, and a later message in which he boasted about bringing a gun and knife to school.
Collin County assistant district attorney Bill Wirskye told an appeal hearing that Anthony’s girlfriend had reported stalking and an obsession with weapons on the day of the April 2, 2025 murder. He also said Anthony sent a picture of a knife and wrote, "I'm low key on the verge," indicating a deteriorating mental state.
Anthony was convicted of the stabbing and sentenced to 35 years in prison. A Texas judge denied his request for a new trial. After the appeal was rejected, his family launched a fundraising effort seeking $250,000 to cover further legal costs.
