Republicans convene in Dallas for Trump-led midterm rally

Resumen

A two-day convention in Dallas, organized by President Donald Trump, will feature speeches by GOP leaders and candidates ahead of the 2024 midterm elections.

Republicans are gathering in Dallas for a two-day convention designed by President Donald Trump to energize the party ahead of the 2024 midterm elections. Unlike traditional presidential nominating conventions, no nominations will be made, and the event will be open to the public, giving it a rally-like atmosphere.

More than 100 Republican House members and candidates are expected to attend, each paying a $25,000 fee for tickets and lodging, a cost described as typical for political conventions. Speakers will include Trump, who will deliver a keynote on Wednesday and a second address on Thursday after Vice President JD Vance, as well as cabinet officials, members of Congress, and candidates such as Texas Senate hopeful Ken Paxton.

"Pretend, please, that I’m on the ballot," Trump said recently in South Carolina, urging voters to support the party.

Organizers have scheduled over 50 brief presentations each night, featuring everyday Americans sharing personal stories about federal policies. The program will highlight Trump’s policy agenda, including immigration enforcement, prescription-drug pricing, tax cuts, and trade measures, while portraying Democrats in partisan terms.

The convention also aims to boost the visibility of GOP candidates, notably Paxton, whose campaign Trump has publicly endorsed. The event is expected to combine political messaging with entertainment, which Trump described as "a rally like none other."
