Four-term Rep. Chris Pappas faces a primary challenge from Karishma Manzur, a candidate aligned with the Democratic Socialists of America, in a race that could influence the balance of power in the U.S. Senate.
Four-term Democratic Rep. Chris Pappas is seeking the Senate nomination in New Hampshire as he confronts a primary challenge from Karishma Manzur, a first-time candidate with a background in biochemistry and nonprofit leadership. Manzur, who is a member of a local Democratic Socialists of America group, advocates for universal health care, a $20-hour minimum wage, the abolition of ICE, and an end to U.S. military aid to Israel.
"All he wants to do is just get his little cushy job and go to D.C., go to all these parties and these restaurants and just do whatever the bare minimum is," Manzur said in an interview.
Pappas, who has received backing from party establishment figures and labor unions, defended his record on foreign policy and campaign finance. He emphasized the United States' historic alliance with Israel while acknowledging disagreements with the current Israeli government.
"Israel's a historic ally of the United States, the only democracy in the region. And you can say that while you have vehement disagreements with the Netanyahu government as I've expressed," Pappas told Fox News Digital.
He also highlighted his efforts to reduce the influence of large donors in Washington since his election to Congress in 2018. The Democratic primary winner will face the Republican nominee, either former Senator John E. Sununu or former Senator Scott Brown, in the general election for the seat being vacated by retiring Sen. Jeanne Shaheen.
