Huawei launches $3,000 Mate XT 2 trifold smartphone in China
Huawei introduced the Mate XT 2, a high-end trifold device powered by its own Kirin 9050 Pro chipset and featuring a privacy-focused display, with prices starting near $3,000.
Huawei began selling the Mate XT 2, the third generation of its trifold smartphone, in China a few days before Apple is expected to unveil its first foldable device. The phone uses a newly developed Kirin 9050 Pro processor that is built entirely in-house, allowing it to avoid U.S. export restrictions on chips that rely on American software.
The device adopts a "wing-like" folding mechanism that folds the two halves of a 10.1-inch interior screen inward to reveal a 6.5-inch exterior display, a design similar to Samsung's cancelled Galaxy Z TriFold. A privacy-oriented OLED panel can narrow its viewing angle, a feature first seen on Samsung's Galaxy S26 Ultra and now applied to a foldable.
Camera hardware includes a 50-megapixel main sensor, a 40-megapixel ultra-wide lens, and a 50-megapixel periscope sensor with up to 3.5× optical zoom, plus an 8-megapixel front-facing camera on the interior screen for video calls.
The Mate XT 2 is offered in white, black or blue, with a base configuration of 16 GB RAM and 256 GB storage priced at about ¥19,999 (roughly $2,980). Higher-capacity models, such as a 1 TB version with the privacy display, cost up to ¥24,999 (approximately $3,725).
