Leaked schematics hint at seven-core GPU and larger cache for iPhone 18 Pro's A20 Pro chip

Summary

A Chinese leaker shared circuit diagrams that suggest the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro will use an A20 Pro processor with a seven-core GPU, unchanged CPU core count, and increased L2 cache for efficiency cores.

A Weibo user known as Fried White Rice posted images of circuit diagrams that appear to show where Apple’s next A20 Pro chip will be mounted on the iPhone 18 Pro’s logic board. Analyzing the layout, the leaker inferred that the processor will retain the same six-core CPU configuration as the prior model—two performance cores and four efficiency cores—but with the L2 cache for the efficiency cores expanded, likely from 6 MB to 8 MB, while the performance-core cache stays at 16 MB.

"The diagrams point to six CPU cores in the same configuration as last year’s model, but the cache memory for the efficiency cores has been increased," the leaker noted.

Based on the arrangement of solder balls and overall chip outline, the analyst evaluated possible GPU configurations of six, seven, or eight cores. The assessment concluded that a seven-core GPU is the most plausible design.

"Trying to determine the number of GPU cores from the limited information is tricky, but seven cores emerges as the most plausible arrangement," the leaker said.

Independent analyst Fixed Focus Digital previously estimated that the A20 Pro could deliver roughly 18 % higher performance and 30 % better power efficiency than its predecessor. While the leaker’s track record lends some credibility, the conclusions rely on indirect inference and should be treated as educated speculation.
