Good Good Golf appoints interim CEO after top executives depart amid ad controversy
Good Good Golf's chief executive officer Matt Kendrick and president Joe Flannery have left the company, with co-founder Nahid Giga taking over as interim CEO following backlash over a promotional video with Callaway Golf.
Good Good Golf announced that CEO Matt Kendrick and president Joe Flannery have exited the company after a controversial advertisement created with Callaway Golf sparked criticism. The internal memo, signed by chief operating officer Alex Puchala, said the departures were mutually decided and that the firm would appoint co-founder and early investor Nahid Giga as interim chief executive effective immediately. Puchala added that the content team will continue producing material for fans and that he will remain COO and CFO to oversee daily operations.
The advertisement, intended to promote a driver collaboration with Callaway, depicted a brand representative running toward a female participant and appearing to shove her to the ground. Both companies removed the video from their social-media channels and issued apologies. The fallout led to Good Good Golf products being withdrawn from several retailers and the brand withdrawing its sponsorship of a PGA Tour event in Austin, Texas, scheduled for November.
Kendrick also faced criticism for late-night social-media posts that seemed to target Callaway after the incident.
