Nvidia Reports Strong Q2 Earnings Amid Market Volatility

Summary

Nvidia's Q2 revenue surged 56% year-over-year, yet shares declined due to market uncertainties and geopolitical concerns.

Nvidia reported a 56% year-over-year increase in second-quarter revenue, reaching $46.7 billion. Despite surpassing Wall Street expectations, the company's shares declined approximately 3% in extended trading, influenced by market uncertainties and geopolitical concerns.

The data center segment contributed significantly, with revenue of $41.1 billion, up 5% from the previous quarter and 56% from the same period last year. Nvidia's Blackwell Data Center revenue grew 17% sequentially.

Notably, there were no H20 chip sales to China during the quarter, and the company did not include any such shipments in its guidance. The White House is currently assessing the legality of a 15% export tax on Nvidia and AMD products.

David Wagner, head of equity at Aptus Capital Advisors, commented on the stock's reaction, stating that the negative response "feels like a bit of an incorrect knee-jerk reaction," and suggested that investors should consider "buying the pullback."

Art Hogan, chief market strategist at B. Riley Wealth Management, highlighted the potential upside if Nvidia secures a license for H20 sales to China, noting that excluding these sales from the Q3 guidance "means that there's more upside potential if, in fact, they get the license for the H20 into China."

The broader market showed mixed reactions. S&P 500 futures traded 0.3% lower, and Nasdaq 100 futures slipped nearly 0.5%. Dow Jones Industrial Average futures were down 12 points, or 0.03%.

Investors are also monitoring political developments, including President Donald Trump's attempt to remove Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook, which has raised concerns about the Fed's independence and potential economic implications.

As of August 28, 2025, Nvidia's stock price stood at $181.76, reflecting a slight decrease of 0.01% from the previous close.
