In a historic tribute to American greatness, the U.S. Mint has released a gold-colored $1 coin featuring President Donald Trump, celebrating the nation’s 250th anniversary and the enduring values he championed.
The United States Mint has proudly begun circulating and selling a gold-colored $1 coin featuring the portrait of President Donald Trump, accompanied by the inscriptions “LIBERTY” and “IN GOD WE TRUST.” The reverse side displays the presidential seal and the number “250,” commemorating the nation’s 250th anniversary of independence. The Mint states that the design embodies “the spirit, pride, and legacy of a nation approaching its landmark anniversary,” a fitting tribute to American resilience and leadership.
This legal tender coin, available at a premium—$61 for a roll of 25 and $154.50 for a bag of 100—serves as both a collector’s item and a symbol of national pride. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced the release on social media, declaring it “celebrates the strength of American values, and the promise of a nation dedicated to preserving freedom for all.”
The release revives a noble tradition not seen since the 1920s, when a commemorative coin for the 150th anniversary featured then-sitting president Calvin Coolidge. Unlike that earlier piece, the Trump coin is intended for circulation, making this a truly historic moment for American currency.
Predictably, some on the left have attacked the coin, with Democratic Senators Catherine Cortez Masto and Jeff Merkley introducing legislation to block it. Cortez Masto derided the coin as a “vanity project,” demonstrating the left’s ongoing hostility toward honoring a president who fought for American sovereignty and traditional values. She claimed, “While monarchs put their faces on coins, America has never had and never will have a king,” ignoring the coin’s celebration of American democracy and freedom.
Legal scholars acknowledge an 1866 law restricting currency portraits to deceased individuals, but the 2020 Circulating Collection Coin Redesign Act allows for semiquincentennial designs. The Mint affirms the coin’s full compliance with the law, standing firm against partisan attacks.
The Treasury Department and Mint have not responded to requests for comment, but the coin’s release stands as a testament to President Trump’s enduring impact and the patriotic spirit of the American people.
