Tim Curry's death attributed to coronary artery disease, officials say

Summary

Documents from Los Angeles County public health officials list coronary artery disease as the primary cause of Tim Curry's death, with prior stroke and kidney cancer noted as contributing conditions.

Tim Curry died on Aug. 25 at his home in Toluca Lake, Los Angeles, at age 80. Records obtained by People from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health indicate that coronary artery disease was the underlying cause of death. The documents also note a history of stroke and kidney cancer, though these were not identified as the primary cause.

Curry's longtime manager and friend, Marcia Hurwitz, confirmed his passing to The Hollywood Reporter on Aug. 26. The actor had suffered a major stroke in 2012, which required brain surgery and a period of rehabilitation.

"It was so strange," Curry told Turner Classic Movies host Ben Mankiewicz in an interview that aired on CBS Sunday Morning, describing how a massage therapist prompted him to seek medical attention despite feeling fine.

Curry, known for roles such as Frank-N-Furter in "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" and Pennywise in the 1990 miniseries "It," also appeared in productions including "Monty Python’s Spamalot," "Annie," "Home Alone 2: Lost in New York," and "Legend."
