New York Attorney General's Office Accused of Directing Staff to Investigate Trump-Linked Entities

摘要

An internal email allegedly instructing prosecutors to pursue crimes involving President Donald Trump and related businesses has sparked a dispute within the New York Attorney General’s office, which denies political motivation.

The New York Attorney General’s office is facing allegations that it directed staff to investigate President Donald Trump, his social media platform Truth Social, and other affiliated entities. According to a report, Assistant Attorney General Daniel Wiesenfeld said he received an email from senior official Shamiso Maswoswe ordering him to "find and pursue crimes" tied to Trump and related organizations, without citing a specific legal basis. The email was reportedly removed from the office’s servers, and a subsequent message from the agency’s general counsel, Kumiki Gibson, described the matter as an internal personnel issue.

The office’s spokesperson told Fox News Digital that the agency is committed to enforcing New York law impartially and rejected claims of political targeting. The spokesperson added that the situation does not pose any danger to employees.

Maswoswe, who joined the Attorney General’s office in 2022 after a prior tenure at the Justice Department, previously filed a discrimination lawsuit against the DOJ, which was settled in 2023 for $795,000. The White House described the allegations as an example of "lawfare" against the former president.

The controversy arises amid ongoing legal actions by the Attorney General’s office against Trump and his business interests, including a civil fraud lawsuit that resulted in a multi-hundred-million-dollar judgment, later partially overturned on appeal.
